… an eerie gurgling cry shattered the silence, confirming her worst fears… that something beyond her wildest nightmares was afoot in this purgatory of infernal fog.
She woke up enveloped in a thick layer of fog. Her world was obscured in its thick walls; and no matter how hard she squinted her eyes, they could not penetrate through.
She felt cold dirt sticking to her palms as she pushed herself off the ground stumbling to her feet. Her mind raced. Imagining all the horrors that could be lurking in the cover of the fog.
The void of silence was so heavy that she thought her ears must be plugged, but an eerie gurgling cry shattered the silence, confirming her worst fears… that something beyond her wildest nightmares was afoot in this purgatory of infernal fog.
She was sure her heart stopped, felt her blood freeze to ice as every hair on her body tingled in fear. She took a step back, another, another, another…
A hand clamped down on her shoulder. She immediately turned. A man— his eyes and mouth sewn shut with thick black cords. He was frantically feeling the empty air trying to get somewhere as guttural moans of agony struggled to be heard through his stitched lips.
That face. That horribly mutilated face… she knew. Her boyfriend. She didn’t have time to think… or to scream.
The fog gently parted, just enough for her to see her brother encircled by several figures. They were chalk white and naked, like archaic demons, hunched over as they struggled to keep him still as they sewed him up in the same horrific fashion.
All eyes turned to look at her as if in unison they felt her presence. Their eyes glowed like a cat’s, shinning menacingly in the dark.
She was in shock. Her basic instincts telling her to run but her heart couldn’t leave and her feet felt like they were stuck in quicksand. A step back. Another. Another. Her body cold, but her brain on fire trying to conjure a way out.
A nightmarish laugh bounced off the back of her neck. Cold clawed-reptilian hands. Pain. Empty darkness. Only to be woken up to a sharp needle pushing through her eyelid and that manic laugh singing a Hellish duet with her bellowing screams.
